Charlesnika T. Evans, PhD, MPH

Evans, PhD, MPHDr. Evans is a Research Career Scientist with CINCCH and is Co-Director of the QUERI program, Combating Antimicrobial Resistance through Rapid Implementation of Available Guidelines and Evidence (CARRIAGE II)’. She is also Professor of Preventive Medicine (Epidemiology) in the Feinberg School of Medicine and the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research at Northwestern University. She has a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, a master’s in public health, and a doctoral degree in epidemiology, which was received from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), School of Public Health in 2007. Dr. Evans has expertise in epidemiologic methods, infectious diseases, and health outcomes of Veterans with spinal cord injury. Her major research interests include prevention of healthcare-associated infections and strategies to reduce the spread of antimicrobial resistance and improve antimicrobial prescribing.

Dr. Evans was the 2013 recipient of the Rising Star Alumni Award from the UIC, School of Public Health. In 2012, Dr. Evans received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE); which is conferred by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. PECASE is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. Government to outstanding scientists and engineers beginning their independent careers. She has mentored numerous graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and junior scientists, has over 160 publications, and is currently or has received past funding as a principal investigator or a co-investigator on over 30 research grants.
